The singing of Vande Mataram at the Congress headquarters on Independence Day has sparked a political row. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge of talking and gesturing disrespectfully during the song. Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson Vinod Bansal echoed the charge, calling the alleged conduct condemnable. A video shows Kharge and Sonia Gandhi speaking and summoning a party worker. The Congress denied the allegations, stating that Sonia Gandhi was merely asking for a chair for Kharge, who had been standing. The party said all six stanzas were sung.
