A six-day hunger strike at Dhalpur ground in Kullu ended on Saturday after health minister Dhaniram Shandil assured protesters of action within 15 days. The protest was over the death of 23-year-old Manju Sharma during childbirth at the Regional Hospital on June 21. The sub-divisional magistrate facilitated a phone call between the minister and the protesters, who then accepted juice, formally ending the fast. Separately, leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticised the state government over deteriorating health services, citing the Kullu death and an uninstalled MRI machine at Ner Chowk Medical College as evidence of neglect.
