The transition has temporarily disrupted garbage collection, but civic officials say services should stabilise in three to four days. The new system uses high-capacity enclosed vehicles, with 10-15 per cent electric, to reduce trips and emissions. Separately, the BMC plans to allow bulk waste generators (BWGs) lacking space for on-site wet waste processing to tie up with nearby establishments that have space, forming special purpose vehicles. The Times of India reports that the BMC has also invited expressions of interest from third-party agencies to help BWGs set up processing systems, with 31 firms participating in a pre-bid meeting.
