# Bobby Deol gets emotional recalling Dharmendra at Jagran Film Festival 2026-08-23T15:40:47+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet At the 14th Rajnigandha Presents Jagran Film Festival, actor Bobby Deol became emotional while remembering his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, and the family's journey in cinema. Speaking in a session titled "Courage to Begin Again: Inside one of Indian Cinema's Most Remarkable Reinventions," Bobby recalled starting his career at age five or six by playing Dharmendra's younger self on screen. Years later, their professional connection came full circle when Bobby dubbed for his father's voice in Dharmendra's final film, Ikkis, for scenes where the character was shown younger. Bobby expressed gratitude that his father saw both his sons succeed after a dull period in their careers. "We were going through a very dull period in our careers. But we both succeeded in the same year. And papa saw that... That now you've recognised yourself as an actor," he said. The conversation also highlighted the importance of family support throughout his career. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Bobby Deol's career arc mirrors the industry's fickle nature: a star in the late 1990s, he faced a long slump before finding renewed acclaim in recent web series and films. The sibling success he refers to is brother Sunny Deol's 2023 blockbuster Gadar 2, which revived both their box-office standing. For Dharmendra, now 88, watching his sons regain industry relevance after years of struggle is a rare closure for a veteran who himself straddled generations. The Jagran Film Festival session underscores how family dynasties remain central to Bollywood's emotional narrative, even as the business model shifts. ## Coverage - bollywoodhungama.com Straight report of an actor's emotional speech at a festival, no editorial slant or judgement.
