# Bobby Deol’s Bandar sets OTT release for August 28 on ZEE5 2026-08-20T20:55:57+00:00 | Entertainment | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Anurag Kashyap's crime thriller Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, will premiere on ZEE5 on August 28. The film, inspired by real events, follows a former television actor accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend and explores themes of accusation, media scrutiny, and public perception. It had a poor theatrical run but premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film is positioned around the #MeTooForMen discourse and raises questions about victimhood and consent. Director Kashyap said the story asks whether society is willing to listen before judging and challenges black-and-white narratives. The cast includes Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Indrajith Sukumaran, Raj B. Shetty, and Jitendra Joshi. 123telugu.com notes that Kashyap's track record suggests the film may fare better digitally. Produced by Saffron Magicworks and Zee Studios, Bandar will stream exclusively on ZEE5. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both sources report the OTT release date neutrally, but Bollywood Hungama gives extensive space to the #MeTooForMen framing and quotes from the cast and director, which promotes the film's thematic ambitions. 123telugu.com is more matter-of-fact, mentioning the poor theatrical run and the director's digital prospects without commentary. Neither source critically examines the film's controversial premise or the director's earlier statements about the final cut. A careful reader should note that the film's core theme of male victimhood in sexual assault cases is being marketed heavily, but box office failure suggests limited public resonance. The August 28 release will test whether digital audiences engage with the conversation the film aims to start. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 1 neutral, 1 sensationalist - 123telugu.com (neutral report) Straightforward announcement of OTT date with brief mention of theatrical run and digital prospects - bollywoodhungama.com (sensationalist) Leads with the #MeTooForMen discourse and extensive promotional quotes from cast and director This story was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above.
