# Bombay HC orders Amazon to hand over expired goods to FDA

The Bombay High Court on Monday directed Amazon Retail India to hand over all expired and perished goods from its Bhiwandi warehouse to the Maharashtra FDA for scientific disposal. Amazon must bear the cost. The court also asked the FDA to file a response by August 27 to Amazon’s challenge against the licence suspension. The FDA had suspended the warehouse’s licence on June 25 after an inspection, alleging that expired food was sent into the retail market. Amazon claims no improvement notice was issued. Last week, the HC criticised the FDA for acting too harshly, saying it was “trying to kill a mosquito with a sword.”
