# Bommai urges Karnataka to act on SC internal quota

BJP MP and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has urged the State’s Congress government to immediately implement internal reservation for Scheduled Caste communities. His appeal follows the Supreme Court’s decision upholding such internal quotas. Bommai made the demand in Bengaluru on August 4 while being felicitated by SC community leaders. Bommai said Karnataka’s SC communities had waited for the measure for a long time and would face injustice if action was delayed. His government had recommended internal reservation in March 2023. He argued that citing a possible amendment to Article 341 would merely postpone their rights. Karnataka has also said it will ask the Centre to amend the Constitution to permit such sub-quotas.
