# Prichard Colon dies at 33, 11 years after brain injury

Prichard Colon, the Puerto Rican boxer who spent 11 years in a vegetative state after a 2015 bout, has died aged 33. His father Richard announced the death on Facebook on Thursday. Colon suffered a severe brain bleed during a fight against Terrel Williams in October 2015. He was repeatedly punched in the back of the head, collapsed in the dressing room, and underwent emergency surgery. He spent 221 days in a coma before emerging with permanent neurological damage. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed. The World Boxing Organization called him "a warrior until the very end." Williams expressed remorse but said he does not blame himself.
