# CAG flags NPA overpayments to UP government doctors

A CAG compliance audit tabled in the UP assembly found that over 500 doctors were paid non-practising allowance (NPA) beyond the prescribed monthly limit of Rs 2,37,500 between 2018 and 2024. In 1,660 cases, NPA was paid at rates above 20% of basic pay, with some allowances reaching 167%. The report cited a senior consultant who received excess NPA of Rs 7,540. It also found 106 ineligible employees got NPA. Hindustan Times reports that the state has not implemented proper financial controls.
