In a scathing attack against the BJP-led government’s handling of Operation Sindoor, the Congress said on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) that it “salutes our forces, not a government that weakens them through diplomatic blunders, poor intelligence management, and misplaced priorities”. This comes after the BJP accused the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of speaking “Pakistan’s language”.

Pawan Khera, who heads the Congress media and publicity wing, accused the BJP of “behaving with shocking immaturity and reckless abandon” while the nation stood united in grief and solidarity.

“Instead of showing accountability and statesmanship, they retreat behind empty bravado and diversionary tactics,” Mr. Khera said in a post on X. “We, as a responsible Opposition, have always stood firmly with our armed forces without any compromise, but we cannot and will not remain silent when the government fails the very people it is sworn to protect,” he added.

‘Premature disclosures’

The Congress leader reiterated Mr. Gandhi’s earlier accusations on Operation Sindoor, asking, “Why did the BJP government rush to inform Pakistan about the operation before even alerting our civilians in border areas like Poonch?” He also asked whether terror masterminds like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed escaped because of the “premature disclosures”.

The Congress’ sharp response came after the BJP’s Amit Malviya, who heads the party’s IT cell, shared a computer-generated split image of Mr. Gandhi and Pakistani Army chief General Asim Munir on his X handle.

“When we ask these tough questions, BJP calls us anti-national, but the real betrayal is putting Pakistani lives before Indian lives and running away from the truth,” Mr. Khera said.

“We once again demand that the Prime Minister convene an all-party meeting and call a special session of Parliament, so the government is compelled to place the full truth before the nation,” he added.
