# Captain Smit Machchhar honoured with cake at Mysuru Dasara 2026-10-22T16:31:45+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets A cake celebrating Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar was a highlight at the Mysuru Dasara festival cake exhibition in Karnataka on Tuesday, 20 October. The display also featured cakes of Jaganmohan Palace, Maharani Kempananjammani and birds and animals. Machchhar was attacked by his co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami aboard a Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv on 30 September. Despite severe head injuries, Machchhar opened the cockpit door, allowing cabin crew, passengers and off-duty pilots to restrain the attacker. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, and all 180 people on board disembarked safely. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded his courage in a video call on 2 October. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Indiatvnews.com and Morung Express both report the cake tribute as a neutral news item, with identical framing of the attack and rescue.
