# Car fuel economy norms to tighten from 2027-28

The Ministry of Power has circulated draft Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE-3) norms for consultation. The proposed norms will apply to M-1 category passenger vehicles manufactured in India or imported for sale. The draft proposes implementation from financial years 2027-28 to 2031-32. The ministry had sought stakeholder and public feedback until August 6, 2026, via post or email. The draft has been uploaded on the ministry and Bureau of Energy Efficiency websites. Final rules will be framed after the consultation process.
