The CBI's Special Task Branch in Mumbai has registered a case against a Nagpur-based bio-fertiliser and pesticide manufacturer and its directors for allegedly defrauding the Bank of India of over Rs 7.6 crore. The complaint, filed by the bank's deputy zonal manager J.P. Singh, alleges that between 2019 and 2024, the company and its directors diverted and siphoned credit funds through criminal conspiracy. The account was declared a non-performing asset in March 2023. Investigators found the firm submitted inflated stock statements and fabricated purchase records to the bank. A forensic audit revealed stock values were overstated in bank submissions while actual inventory at the premises was significantly lower. Creditors were understated by up to 65% in some months. The CBI has charged the firm and its directors with criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, cheating, and corruption under the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
