The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved a Rs 334.89-crore internal flyover at Visakhapatnam Port Authority to speed up cargo evacuation and ease congestion. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the project will remove a critical bottleneck and improve operational efficiency. The 3.584-km elevated corridor will connect Convent Junction with the Dock Area, separating road and rail traffic. It targets nine major level crossings that see about 18 gate closures daily due to high train volumes, causing long vehicle waiting times and higher fuel costs. Work is to finish within 30 months.
