# Centre mulls separate law for women farmers, says EAC chief

The Centre is considering a separate law to protect women farmers, modelled on the Maharashtra Women Farmers Empowerment Act, 2026, said S. Mahendra Dev, chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Speaking at an MSSRF conference in Chennai, he said the shift from production-centric to income-centric agriculture is key. Tamil Nadu minister P. Venkataramanan added that the state aims to strengthen women's land rights and boost nutrition with millets. The ongoing Census must capture women's unpaid work, former official C. Chandramouli warned.
