# Centre proposes global standard for gas pipeline efficiency

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has proposed adopting the international standard ISO 15741:2016 for internal friction-reduction coatings used in steel gas transmission pipelines. The move aims to improve efficiency and durability of India's gas transportation network as the country expands its pipeline infrastructure. India currently operates 25,923 km of gas pipelines, with another 9,954 km under construction. The standard will remain voluntary unless the government later issues a Quality Control Order. Stakeholder comments are invited over two months before finalisation.
