# Centre puts Kerala elevated highway on hold, cites Metro hurdles

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has put the 14.64-km Edappally-Aroor six-lane elevated highway project on hold. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha that new projects will be taken up only after completing existing ones. MP Hibi Eden confirmed the project faced two major hurdles: the agency preparing the detailed project report withdrew midway, and Kochi Metro rail lines at Palarivattom and Vyttila posed physical obstructions. Instead, the Centre has approved the 49.5-km, eight-lane Angamaly-Aroor Greenfield Bypass with port connectivity. The new alignment avoids major urban hubs. Gadkari said the DPR for the bypass has been awarded and the 3A notification for land acquisition will be re-issued in August.
