# Centre Sends Joint Team to Gujarat and Rajasthan Over Chandipura Outbreak

The Union Health Ministry has sent a National Joint Outbreak Response Team to Gujarat and Rajasthan after a Chandipura virus outbreak killed at least 22 children in Gujarat this monsoon. The team includes experts from the National Centre for Disease Control, the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The team will support surveillance, testing, clinical assessment and vector studies. Sandflies are established vectors, but scientists are examining whether mosquitoes, ticks or mites also contribute to transmission. Around 70 animal blood samples, along with milk samples, are being tested. Officials said laboratory and genetic findings remain preliminary, and the transmission cycle is still under investigation.
