# Centre, OMCs assure E20 petrol safe after tests

The Centre and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have asked consumers to use E20 petrol with confidence, saying nationwide intensive testing found no contamination. The move follows media reports about moisture and chloride in blended fuel. OMCs said fuel quality remains well within prescribed limits and there is no cause for alarm. Tests across refineries, depots and retail outlets showed chloride levels in petrol below 1 ppm and in ethanol below 3 ppm. Officials reported only four isolated instances of elevated chloride, and supplies were suspended for corrective action. Water ingress tests at 90,000 retail outlets found no ingress. A dedicated task force tested ethanol samples from 80 distilleries, all with chloride below 3 ppm.
