Congress MP Manish Tewari has questioned Chandigarh’s voter numbers after the 2026 Special Intensive Revision, ahead of Punjab’s 2027 Assembly election. The constituency had 6,59,805 registered voters and 4,49,275 votes cast in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll, a turnout of 68.1%. The post-revision electorate is roughly 4,50,282, which Tewari says would imply nearly 100% turnout if compared with the 2024 votes cast. Times Now Digital reports that the Chandigarh chief electoral officer’s figures show 5,16,427 voters covered, with 87.19% of forms collected and digitised. Field checks placed 66,146 names in shifted, absent, deceased or duplicate categories. BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said the comparison is invalid because the revised list is not final. Journalist R. Rajagopalan called Tewari’s timing political.
