It carried 432.98 million passengers and loaded 11.33 million tonnes of freight, up 6 per cent. Mail and Express trains recorded 87 per cent punctuality. The division also ran 3,559 special trains and added 1,557 coaches during rush periods. The railway division is doubling the 67.79-km Chengalpattu-Arakkonam line at a cost of Rs 926.52 crore. The project is expected to raise capacity from 13 to 50 trains a day and support a 192-km circular suburban rail network.
