Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj has issued an order prohibiting the participation of Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell in any event in the district for 30 days. The DC issued the order on July 5, as per Section 163 of the BNSS, following the recommendation of Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police.
The district police received information that Hindutva organisations had invited Mr. Pumpwell to hold meetings in parts of Chikkamagaluru city, Mudigere, Aldur and many other places. He has a history of delivering provocative speeches that could disturb peace and spread communal hatred.
He is named in 20 cases registered in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Tumakuru districts.
With regard to the case filed in Tumakuru, High Court of Karnataka had granted bail with the condition that he should not leave Dakshina Kannada district without prior permission, the order stated.
Considering the above facts, the DC prohibited his entry to the district between July 6 and August 4.
