# China rejects India’s standardisation of 27 Arunachal place names

Beijing on Monday called India's move to standardise names of 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh 'illegal, null and void'. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China does not recognise the 'so-called Arunachal Pradesh' and reiterated its claim over the region it calls Zangnan. India last week formally identified 27 places and features in the state by their standard names on the official Indian map. China's Civil Affairs Ministry has been periodically releasing Chinese names for locations in Arunachal Pradesh since 2017, with the last set issued in April this year. New Delhi has consistently rejected China's renaming attempts as 'vain and preposterous', asserting that Arunachal Pradesh is and will always remain an integral part of India.
