Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd began work on Friday evening to bridge a 366-metre gap in the viaduct over the Garia-bound flank of EM Bypass, a missing link that had delayed Metro connectivity from Kavi Subhash to Salt Lake Sector V for over a year. Traffic permission delays had stalled the work until the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court intervened. By Sunday evening, all 12 segments had been launched successfully, chemical pasting was complete, and traction work was nearly finished. Only curing work remains, expected to continue from 10 pm Sunday to 6 am Monday. The first phase, installing a 28-metre concrete deck between piers 317 and 318, was completed ahead of schedule earlier in May.
