Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle was attacked with stones, mud and shoes in North 24 Parganas district on Sunday. Protesters shouted ‘chor’ (thief) slogans as she travelled to Bijpur to meet the family of a Trinamool Congress worker who died in police custody. Banerjee alleged that police did not take security measures despite being informed, and claimed they were providing protection to the BJP. Protesters said she had come to disturb the peaceful area. The deceased worker, Birju Keot, had reportedly fallen ill while in Halisahar police custody.
