# SC slams BCI for blocking NALSAR students’ enrolment after CJI protest

The Supreme Court on Friday strongly criticised the Bar Council of India (BCI) for its short-lived order blocking the enrolment of NALSAR University's 2026 graduating batch as advocates. The students had objected to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant being invited as chief guest for their convocation, citing his remarks during a hearing on police action against protesters. CJI Surya Kant, who was on the bench, said students have the right to peacefully protest and questioned why the BCI had intervened. He called it 'totally uncalled for'. The BCI had withdrawn its order within hours, but the court took up a petition and ordered that no punitive action be taken against students or faculty. The CJI also invited the students to join the Supreme Court bar.
