# Claude downloads surge 30-fold as Gemini gains on ChatGPT in India

Claude’s downloads in India rose more than 30-fold year on year to 8.5 million in the June quarter of 2026, while consumer spending climbed nearly 19-fold to Rs 62.2 crore, Sensor Tower data reported by the Times of India shows. Gemini’s downloads more than doubled to 18.1 million, and its share of time spent on generative AI apps rose to 18.7% from 4.9%. ChatGPT remained the leader in consumer spending at Rs 112.8 crore, up 36% from a year earlier. Grok recorded Rs 20.4 crore, Perplexity Rs 5.8 crore and Gemini Rs 1.8 crore. Sensor Tower analyst Eve Chen said Claude’s downloads and monthly active users had accelerated since early 2026.
