# Cochin airport steps up flood measures amid heavy rain

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has strengthened its flood mitigation programme, Operation Pravah, as heavy rain continues to batter Kerala. The airport operator has cleaned 23.85 km of canals and drains, including Chengalthodu and the diversion canal, at a cost of about Rs 41 lakh. Three new bridges at Chowara, Mathathimoola, and Puliyampilly, worth Rs 40 crore, are being built by RITES Limited. A real-time monitoring system now tracks water levels in the Periyar River from Neeleswaram and across the airport's drainage network. A standard operating procedure integrating all engineering departments has been in effect since August 1.
