Congress on Wednesday accused the BJP of politicising the Jharkhand student protests and of shielding the ‘exam mafia’ by demanding a CBI probe instead of a state CID investigation. Protests over alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination have been ongoing since July 25. On Monday, police used lathi-charge and water cannons on protesters near the Jharkhand assembly. Congress ministers claimed no force was used and that the state government had already taken steps against paper leaks. They alleged 152 paper leaks have occurred since 2015 under BJP rule, with only 17 investigated by the CBI and no convictions. Rahul Gandhi said he is not silent on the issue and condemned violence against students.
