# Congress CWC meeting to discuss Vande Mataram row, polls and women’s quota 2026-08-19T14:08:53+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets The Congress Working Committee is scheduled to meet at 3 pm at Indira Bhawan, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal expected to attend, Livemint reports. The agenda includes the political situation, the party’s response to student issues and the alleged Ram temple donation theft, preparations for assembly elections, and a proposed delimitation-linked bill for women’s reservation. The meeting comes after a row over Vande Mataram at the Congress headquarters. Livemint says the party will discuss its position that only the first two stanzas should be sung at its programmes. Times Now reports that the CWC has already reaffirmed this position, citing a 1937 Congress resolution. It also reports BJP allegations that Congress leaders disrespected the song, and the Congress denial. Polls are expected next year in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The two reports differ mainly on timing and certainty. Livemint presents the CWC meeting as upcoming and places the Vande Mataram position among several agenda items, while Times Now treats the decision as already taken and gives greater space to the BJP’s allegations and the Congress response. Times Now’s focus on the viral video and legal protection for the song adds conflict but gives less detail on the wider political agenda. A careful reading supports a narrower conclusion: Congress is maintaining its first-two-stanzas position, while the meeting’s full agenda and any decision on delimitation-linked women’s reservation remain to be established. The 3 pm meeting is the immediate event to watch. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 1 neutral, 1 sensationalist - livemint.com (neutral report) Lists the meeting agenda and competing political positions without dramatic framing - timesnownews.com (sensationalist) Leads with controversy, viral video and allegations of disrespect This story was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above.
