Researchers at the Institute of Science Tokyo have found that regularly engaging in cultural activities, from watching movies and attending concerts to visiting museums and travelling, is linked to slower physiological ageing, according to a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health. The research, published by the BMJ, suggests that such engagement may improve social connection, mental health, and healthy behaviours, which in turn could reduce biological ageing. The study adds to evidence that participating in arts and culture is associated with lower mortality risk and better cognitive health, particularly among older adults. Among those who took part in cultural activities at least once a month, physiological ageing was around 0.8 years slower, earlier research cited in the study indicated.
