# Kerala Consumer Commission Orders Union Bank to Pay Rs 15,000

2026-08-06T06:15:24+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk

A Kerala district consumer commission held Union Bank of India responsible after Rs 10,000 was debited from P.K. Sathian’s account at a Kozhikode ATM on July 28, 2022, without cash being dispensed. Sathian complained to two bank branches but did not receive a refund. He then approached the commission. The bank cited the ATM’s Electronic Journal to claim the withdrawal succeeded. The commission said the bank failed to provide CCTV footage and that the journal alone was insufficient proof. It ordered a Rs 10,000 refund and Rs 5,000 compensation within 30 days. Delayed payment will attract 9% annual interest.
