State convenor Somashekar warned of a massive protest outside the homes of the chief minister, revenue minister and district in-charge minister if the government fails to act within a month. Of 8,510 acres of DC Manna land in Dakshina Kannada reserved by the British, about 7,366 acres have allegedly been encroached, leaving only 190 acres for allotment. DSS says 5,590 landless families have applied. A 2017 draft Special Land Grant Rules was never approved, and a December 2024 proposal to amend the 1969 Land Grant Rules is also pending.
