# Danube low reveals bodies, bike from WWII in Budapest

The Danube in Budapest has fallen to unusually low levels, exposing the bodies of two German Wehrmacht soldiers and a DKW NZ 350-1 military motorbike that had been buried in riverbed mud for about 80 years. According to Euro News, the finds were made near Batthyany Square on the Buda side, an area usually covered by moored boats. The German War Graves Commission recovered the soldiers, whose identity discs and remains were unusually well preserved by gas-oil-tainted harbour mud. Alongside the men, recovery teams found anti-tank mines, a military decoration, a petrol can, and the motorcycle. Both halves of each identity disc were still together, meaning the soldiers' deaths were never officially reported. The discs may now help establish their identities before reburial.
