India has approved 12 semiconductor projects worth over Rs 1.64 lakh crore, with a second phase of its semiconductor programme allocated Rs 1.27 lakh crore. Space-tech startups have raised $871 million across 241 rounds, with 285 companies working on launch vehicles, satellites and propulsion, according to Livemint. The government aims to meet 70-75% of domestic chip demand by 2029. Experts say the cycle is real and a decade long, driven by patient capital, policy support and demand from AI, defence and electronics. Ajay Modi of Piper Serica noted that 400 startups work in space-tech, while the push spans chip design, fabrication, packaging and R&D. The Indian semiconductor market is projected to grow from $38 billion in 2023 to $100-110 billion by 2030, reports the Times of India.
