Kandhasamy, originally from Mangaluru in Karnataka, was initially arrested in a theft case from 2007 but secured bail after a month in custody. He then absconded and was declared a proclaimed offender by a Delhi court in 2014. Police placed a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. The accused had settled in Tamil Nadu with his wife and two children, running a poultry farm.
