# Delhi govt cancels CPA tenders, hospitals to buy meds directly

The Delhi government has suspended the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) pending investigations into alleged irregularities in medicine and equipment procurement. An August 6 order from the health and family welfare department cancels all incomplete CPA tenders and directs government hospitals to procure medicines, surgical consumables, and equipment on their own, following General Financial Rules and GeM guidelines. Existing rate contracts remain until expiry but will be reviewed for procedural lapses. The CPA, created in 1994, centrally supplied all Delhi government hospitals. The anti-corruption branch and the Enforcement Directorate are probing allegations of inflated pricing, tender manipulation, and favouritism towards suppliers. The health minister recently served a showcause notice to the health secretary, citing ignored directives for a comprehensive procurement action plan.
