# Delhi HC Questions Jantar Mantar’s Status As Protest Venue

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked whether Jantar Mantar should remain Delhi’s designated protest site, saying demonstrations in the capital’s heart could inconvenience the city. Justice Amit Mahajan directed Delhi Police to decide by Saturday on the All India Dalit Christian Rights Protection Committee’s request to hold a peaceful protest there on August 10. The group expects about 75 participants and has sought Scheduled Caste status for Dalit Christians. The court did not instruct police to approve or reject the request. The Additional Solicitor General cited Independence Day security arrangements and existing prohibitory orders. The Supreme Court is separately considering a plea seeking an alternative protest venue. Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das opposed any move to shift protests from Jantar Mantar, saying it could restrict citizens’ rights.
