# Delhi Metro hits 99.95% punctuality in 2026, among world’s top five

Delhi Metro trains ran on time 99.95 per cent of the time in 2026, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said, putting it among the world's top five most reliable metro systems. A train counts as delayed only if it reaches its destination more than 59 seconds late, a stricter benchmark than the two-minute threshold used by the Community of Metros, a group of 45 systems that ranks Delhi ahead of Hong Kong, Paris and New York. The network, which began with an 8.4-km stretch in 2002, now spans 416.5 km with 303 stations and 12 lines. Average daily ridership has climbed from about 82,000 journeys in the first year to 64.06 lakh, with a record 81 lakh single-day journeys on August 8, 2025. About 29 per cent of the network runs driverless, including the 71.55-km Pink Line.
