Delhi Police on Thursday dismissed social media claims that Jantar Mantar has been closed for protests, calling them false and misleading. The site remains available for authorised peaceful demonstrations under a Supreme Court-mandated SOP, which allows gatherings of up to 1,000 people with prior approval, The Hans India reports. Separately, the Supreme Court is considering a fresh plea seeking an alternative protest site. The Times of India notes that the government gave an undertaking over 15 years ago to find another location, but nothing materialised. The court has now sought the stand of the Delhi government and police on the matter.
