The operation began on August 4 after police received information about a consignment in Karawal Nagar. Officers intercepted three men carrying 12,640 cigarettes in 79 cartons near Shiv Vihar. The cigarettes were manufactured in Indonesia and allegedly lacked mandatory health warnings under the COTPA Act. Police later arrested the alleged supplier, identified as Neeraj Kapoor, and raided a warehouse in Budhpur Industrial Area. The raid recovered about 2.70 lakh more cigarettes of various brands. Police said they are tracing the source, financial transactions and other people linked to the alleged supply network.
