# Delhi starts PUC enforcement drive from Oct 1

Delhi will launch an enforcement drive against vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates from October 1, chief minister Rekha Gupta announced on Saturday. Vehicles caught without a valid PUC will face challans and a fine of Rs 10,000 under existing provisions. Gupta said technology will be used to strengthen monitoring and functioning of PUC centres. The requirement applies to petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles, electric vehicles are exempt. The move targets vehicles whose tailpipe emissions exceed prescribed limits. Separately, Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued 2,747 challans in a special drive targeting tinted glass, wrong-side driving and helmet violations. This included 182 challans for vehicles without valid PUC certificates. Five FIRs were registered for wrong-side driving.
