# Satwik-Chirag get walkover, Sindhu and Sen advance at BWF Worlds 2026-08-18T17:26:20+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 4 independent outlets (7 source reports) Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the BWF World Championships pre-quarterfinals without playing a rally after Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle withdrew due to an injury to Dunn. The fifth-seeded Indian pair had already received a first-round bye. They will now face Indonesia's 12th-seeded Raymond Indra and Nicolas Joaquin in the next round. On day three, Lakshya Sen defeated USA's Garret Tan to reach the last 16, while PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty also progressed. Unnati Hooda beat Canada's Michelle Li. The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also advanced to the pre-quarters with a straight-games win over Macau's Leong Iok Chong and Ng Weng Chi. The championships, returning to India after 17 years, run until August 23 at the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi. More than 400 players from over 50 countries are competing. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The pro-government framing from the Times of India and Assam Tribune led with official launches and ministerial quotes, presenting the tournament as a milestone for Indian badminton infrastructure and national pride. In contrast, the Times Now coverage led with match-by-match drama and walkover details, slightly sensationalising the 'without hitting a shot' angle. The Hindu (Sportstar) provided neutral reporting focused on draw analysis and schedules. The middle ground: the event is a significant homecoming for the Worlds, but the actual competition narrative is developing day by day, with Ayush Shetty's upset and Satwik-Chirag's walkover being the early talking points, not the mascot launch. Watch for Satwik-Chirag's pre-quarterfinal against Indonesia's 12th seeds, the toughest Indian test so far. ## Coverage Coverage: 7 sources, 1 pro-government, 5 neutral, 1 sensationalist - timesofindia.indiatimes.com (pro government) Leads with government officials and mascot launch, quotes ministers positively - timesnownews.com (neutral report) Straight schedule and draw reporting, no framing beyond facts - sportstar.thehindu.com (neutral report) Neutral preview with draw analysis, no official slant - sportstar.thehindu.com (2) (neutral report) Focused entirely on Sindhu's match, factual preview - timesofindia.indiatimes.com (2) (neutral report) Live updates style, straight reporting on day 3 matches - assamtribune.com (neutral report) Leads with walkover as positive development for Indian pair - timesnownews.com (2) (sensationalist) Drama-first framing: 'storm into pre-quarters without hitting a shot' This story was synthesised by AI from the 7 sources linked above.
