# DII holdings hit record 21%, FII ownership at all-time low 17%

Domestic institutional investors now hold a record 21% stake in Nifty-500 companies, while foreign institutional ownership touched an all-time low of 17% as of June 2026, according to a Motilal Oswal report. DII holdings rose 160 basis points year-on-year; FII ownership fell 190 basis points. Promoter holdings increased to 49.5% and retail ownership dipped to 12.6%. Separately, The Economic Times reports that foreign portfolio investors turned net buyers in IT stocks in July, investing Rs 3,358 crore in the month, the first such buying this year. They also bought consumer durables (Rs 4,958 crore) and healthcare (Rs 3,654 crore). Overall, FPIs were net buyers of equities worth Rs 20,200 crore in July.
