Washington: US President Donald Trump is set to hold key talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, July 4, amid the ongoing war with Russia.
According to reports, Donald Trump is likely to discuss a potential halt to US weapons support for Ukraine during the conflict.
These talks come as the President continues his repeated efforts to mediate peace between the two nations, which have been locked in a prolonged war.
However, Trump has so far been unsuccessful in bringing both Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy to the negotiating table.
Ever since the Russia-Ukraine war broken out, Kyiv has remained heavily dependent on its weapon supply from the United States and Europe, especially France, to fight the Russian forces.
Time and again, Zelenskyy has been pressing its western allies to provide his country for weapons worth billions to fight Russia, however, even after continuous support, Ukraine has been struggling against Russia.
If it wouldn’t have been for US and Europe, Ukraine had lost the war within weeks, a fact which Donald Trump had himself said when Zelenskyy travelled to White House to hold meeting with US President.
Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s public meeting ended in a full public showdown as a visibly frustrated Trump lambasted Zelenskyy for not agreeing to ceasefire even when he was losing the war.
Donald Trump told Zelenskyy that Ukraine was losing the war and if the US had not provided defence and financial support, Kyiv had lost it long back.
During a full public blowout at the White House in front of the global press, Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of constantly nagging about Vladimir Putin and claimed Zelenskyy was not ready for peace.
Trump then had made the Ukrainian leader booted out of the White House, stating that Zelenskyy could return whenever he was ready for peace.
