# BWF World Championships begin in Delhi, Sindhu gets easy draw

India is hosting the BWF World Badminton Championships for the first time in 17 years, starting Monday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen received favourable opening-round draws, reports NDTV Sports. This is the 30th edition of the tournament and only the second time India has been the host, the first since 2009. According to Sportstar, 11 Indian shuttlers have won 15 medals since the championships began in 1977. Sindhu's 2019 gold remains India's only yellow metal. The country has never reached the podium in mixed doubles. The last Indian medal was a bronze for Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in men's doubles in 2025.
