# Eight Convicted in SBI Chengam Branch Loan Fraud Case

A special CBI court in Chennai convicted eight people, including two former State Bank of India officials, in a fraud case involving the bank’s Chengam branch. Each was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment. Fines ranged from ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh. The case concerned 728 dairy loans worth ₹2.34 crore, allegedly obtained in 2007-08 through forged documents and by bypassing required procedures. The CBI said SBI suffered a wrongful loss of ₹1.97 crore. Proceedings against two other accused ended after their deaths during the trial.
