# Eight dead, two missing in flooded Chamoli tunnel

Rescuers recovered an eighth body on Saturday from the flooded under-construction THDC tunnel at Mayapur in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. Two workers remain missing after water and debris entered the tunnel on Thursday evening. Twelve workers have been rescued, with 11 receiving hospital treatment and one discharged after minor injuries. Suction pumps are being used to drain the tunnel, while teams from the district administration, police, SDRF and NDRF search probable locations. The Indian Express reports the latest casualty was Devnath of Chhattisgarh. The Hindu says the identity had not yet been released. Waterlogging and debris continue to slow the operation.
