Organiser Sardar Umar Nazir said the elections were held at gunpoint and warned the Pakistani Army that a hard state policy would not work in the region, while urging the government to return to the negotiating table. Another protest leader, Sardar Aman Khan, alleged that an ISI sector commander for the region had ensured the outcome he wanted, and warned political leaders supporting Pakistan ahead of elections scheduled for 10 August on 11 seats in the Poonch division. Large numbers of women joined demonstrations in Rawalakot on 5 August against what protesters described as continuing brutality since 7 June.
