Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 has opened with Rs 8 crore in advance bookings against Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947, which managed Rs 1.76 crore in pre-sales for day one, according to Sacnilk. Both films released on August 14 for the Independence Day weekend. Awarapan 2, a sequel to the 2007 cult film, brings back Hashmi as Shivam Pandit. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, it also stars Shabana Azmi and Disha Patani. Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and based on Asghar Wajahat's novel, features Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Ali Fazal in a Partition-era story.
